Her mother was unable to bear her child so she became pregnant. She gave birth shortly thereafter. Oprah enjoyed a lot of the support and love she received from her father while living with him. Her father made her a complete new person. He was very strict with her. He made her learn five new words each day, and required her to participate in debate, speech, and drama during high school. She was a great orator because of this. Oprah was awarded a full university scholarship after winning a speech competition.
